This month, April 2022, sees the publication of a major new textbook from Class Publishing, ‘Prehospital Research Methods and Practice’, edited and co-authored by members of CaHRU together with an international line-up of eminent experts in the field of prehospital research from the UK, US and Australia.
Written for students and researchers undertaking studies in the prehospital environment, whether current and future doctors, nurses, paramedics or other allied health professionals, the text covers the key research designs with chapters on systematic reviews to quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods and consensus designs, together with ethics, critical appraisal and quality improvement. The research methods are illustrated by examples from current and recent studies conducted in the ambulance setting.
The textbook is edited by Professor Niro Siriwardena and Dr Greg Whitley. Chapter authors include academic paramedics (Greg Whitley, Mike Smyth, Peter O’Meara, Bill Lord, David Williams), emergency physician (Gavin Perkins) and emergency nurse (Tom Quinn), together with experts in health services research (Alicia O’Cathain), clinical trials (Chen Ji), ethics (Adele Langlois, Steph Armstrong), systematic reviews (Ffion Curtis, Despina Laparidou) and primary care (Niro Siriwardena). The foreword is written by one of the founding fathers of paramedicine, Professor Douglas Chamberlain.
